X Marks the Spot

The map of Cocos that I have posted today, is in fact a copy of a British Admiralty chart.
I have chosen this chart for its' accuracy, as I wish to show you, the approximate position of another possible Treasure location on Cocos.!!

A few years ago I received an e.mail request from a guy in Australia, I had my own web site at that time which challenged the conventional methods of Decoding possible Treasure Charts.

To be quite candid with you, for every treasure chart, there are at least a thousand ways of interpreting the meaning within that chart.

Most people will read something different into a sign or mark drawn upon it, most people will swear, that they are the only ones, to understand the true meaning, of this or that chart, unfortunately we cannot all be correct.!

Yes!, I am one of those people, however I do believe I could be wrong!, Yes!, I have made mistakes, but I am honest enough to admit them.

I happen to have a different view of many charts, whether or not you agree or disagree with that view, is entirely your prerogative!.

Anyway back to this story, the guy from Australia wanted to know, how or what method I used, to break into the Chart or charts' code!!.

He said that he had uncovered a set of directions, which would lead to the Treasure of Lima.
This treasure was rumoured to be one of the Three treasures buried on Cocos!!.
However this Australian guy reckoned that the set of directions he had, were for the Tuamatos island group.??

Also, would it be possible for me to make any sense of them.? he then sent me the following directions.

AFTER BURYING THE TREASURE WE TOOK OUR POSITION BY COMPASS AND FOUND OUR LOCATION TO BE EAST HALF EAST EAST MOUNTAIN TEN NORTH EAST WEST MOUNTAIN!!.

I promised him that I would study the directions and get back to him with any observations!!.

After duly studying these directions, it became apparent to me, that who-ever wrote them down, was either stood, facing North or South, which is the only way he could get a reading from East to west as described within the directions!, although I still had no idea what they meant!.

I then studied the Tuamatos island group and found that they did not have any mountains, as the islands are very low lying, not much over 10metres' above sea level;?
Discrepancies and anomalies like this intrigue me,yet I kept my word and contacted the Australian with my initial findings, for which he thanked me and that was that, or was it??

I don't know about you, but when something bugs me, it Bugs the life out of me until I do something about it!!
I just have to put a solution to a problem, a point to a theory, some logic to disorder, so yes, I went back to the directions, what do they mean??

I will conclude this post tomorrow.
happy hunting, crowsnest.

Sunday, 24-9-06.
The key, to X marks the Spot.
What do the directions mean? well here is my theory!!.
I believe the directions should be read as follows:

AFTER BURYING THE TREASURE, WE TOOK OUR POSITION BY COMPASS AND FOUND OUR LOCATION TO BE:
EAST BY HALF EAST, TO EAST MOUNTAIN.
AND TEN DEGREES NORTHEAST OF WEST MOUNTAIN!!

My interpretation of the directions is based upon a number of premise'.

1) That the Treasure of Lima is buried on Cocos??
2) That the directions are Genuine.
3) The treasure is rumoured to be buried near Wafer Bay.
4) This premise, relates to the size of the Treasure, according to a recent newspaper article, covering an abortive attempt in 1986 by a world renowned female singer.
The Treasure is described as:
The life size, solid gold Madonna and apostles,17 tons of gold bullion, many tons of silver, hundreds of thousands of gold doubloons and 29,000 diamonds, rubies, emeralds and amethysts-30 tons of Treasure estimated value? £500,000,000.

This treasure would have to be dragged and hauled to its' final destination by manpower alone!

Therefore my fifth premise, is that the Treasure, will not be too far from the Coast!
With these thoughts flashing through my brain, I went to work on the directions.

It is very easy to write this now, although at the time of my research I was riddled with self doubt!
Coming up with theory after theory, only to question and discard them after finding each fatal flaw.

Until that is, I found that the magnetic compass, changes from year to year.
So in 1821, when the Treasure was buried, the magnetic compass for the Cocos region, was different to what it is today!!.

I plotted the island from North to South and East to west, finally coming up with Two possible positions.

Neither of these positions, is anywhere near Wafer Bay, some may find this difficult to understand?/
Althought logic should substantiate this theory, which pirate in his right mind would enter into a bay to unload a Treasure, as large as this one.

A bay that was frequently used by most sea-faring nations at any time of the day or year!

If I were that pirate, a small little used bay, far from inquisitive eyes, would suit me and my purpose, especially as I would want to keep its' location a secret.
To this end I think that the Treasure of Lima, has been a very well kept secret, after all who has found it ??

The chart included with this post, has the position of the mountains marked in Yellow.
The true North compass is in Blue.
The magnetic compass for 1821 is in Green.
The approximate location of the Treasure is the Red circle.

As I said there are two possible locations, can You find the other??

Happy Hunting Crowsnest.

Ps. Somehow, I don't think we've heard the last of Cocos!! DoYou??.
